On 4/20/2014 NJWeedman held a 4/20 event in Trenton, NJ that was covered by national news and created a national scandal when Gov Christie the next day reacted to this press by criticizing Colorado. -- http://www.njweedman.com/index.php/news-category/latest-news/284-420-2014 --- http://www.njweedman.com/index.php/news-category/latest-news/285-tosh1
One day after marijuana advocates gathered at the New Jersey statehouse for a pro-pot rally, Gov. Chris Christie again gave his perspective on the issue of legalization of the drug.
“I am not going to be the governor who is going to tell our children and young adults that marijuana use is okay,” Christie said to a caller on Townsquare Media’s Ask the Governor program, who asked whether he supported legalization. ”Because it’s not. Not even in casual use.”
The governor cited a study by the Journal of Neuroscience that was publicized last week claiming casual marijuana use can damage the brain. The study’s authors say this is the first medical study to exclusively look at the effects of casual pot use – smoking once or twice a week.
Sunday’s demonstration was organized by Ed Forchion, the activist who goes by the moniker “NJ Weedman.”
“On this family day (of Easter), think of how many people are in a cage due to a plant,” Forchion said, to applause.
Christie remains unmoved by those arguments, as well as those from advocates who argue that tax revenue could be a big benefit to the state. Christie argued tonight: “I don’t care about the tax money… It’s not permissible.”
Later in the program, Christie added: “Go to Colorado and see if you wanna live there. Headshops popping up on every corner, and people flying in just to get high.”
